about us
Guilderoy Byrne performs traditional
and contemporary songs, tunes, and
stories. Music includes Celtic and
International selections played on a
variety of acoustic, folk instruments. Our
group plays appropriate material for the
pub setting as well as more culturally
oriented, educational, and social events.
Guilderoy Byrne
Greg Byrne on vocals & guitars. Co-founding
member of two longstanding traditional groups:
Lexington-based Mad Catherine & the
Moondog Pirates, and Louisville-based
Galloglas. Has performed throughout the USA
and Canada as both soloist and group member.
Native of Covington, KY whose father’s family
immigrated to the USA from Ireland in 1842 by
way of Philadelphia. Mother’s family is Scottish.
“My father’s family are the drinkers, but my
mother’s family are the singers!”
Mark Cannon on vocals, whistle, flute,
mandolin, fiddle & percussion. An accomplished
multi-instrumentalist. There is not a traditional
instrument Mark hasn't played or contemplated
playing! Former member of traditional group
Ten Penny Bit, and a well-known band leader
for local and regional folk dances. Mark is an
excellent singer and contributes stirring vocal
pieces to the group’s performances. He'll also
delight audiences with hilarious drinking songs
on occasion!
Danette Rhoads on fiddle, guitar, mandolin,
and bass. Danette brings an eclectic blend of
fiddle playing to the band using clean, lyrical
lines that reflect influences of bluegrass,
classical, and folk music. A classically trained
violinist since age 5, she also began bluegrass
fiddle lessons to ensure a diverse musical
experience. A former member of Louisville-
based Celtic band Galloglass, she was most
recently a member of Skean Dubh, an Irish
band based out of Denver, Colorado. She has
also written original tunes and performed at
many music festivals, including Aspen,
Tanglewood, and the Kentucky Folk Festival.
Virginia Copley on vocals and flute. Virginia
grew up in the hills of Tennessee singing
country, bluegrass, gospel and (of all things)
musical theater. Classically trained in voice
and choral conducting in college, she
repeatedly ticked off her vocal coach by singing
in cabaret shows and bluegrass festivals. She
has been the assistant choir director of the
University of Kentucky Women's Choir, a
featured soloist in the Lexington Singers choral
ensemble, and actress in regional radio and TV
commercials. She has worked for over a
decade as music director for several Kentucky
churches and is thrilled to be joining Guilderoy
Byrne as their newest member.
